How to Measure Ring Size

The most practical at-home method is to measure finger circumference in millimeters, then compare that number against a ring size chart or converter.

Simple method with paper or string

  1. Take a thin strip of paper, thread, or a flexible measuring tape.
  2. Wrap it around the base of the finger where the ring will sit.
  3. Mark the exact point where the ends overlap.
  4. Lay the strip flat and measure the length in millimeters with a ruler.
  5. Enter that millimeter value into the ring size converter using the circumference option.

Tips that improve accuracy

What to do if you already own a ring

If you already have a ring that fits well, measure the inside diameter in millimeters and use the diameter option in the converter. This can be easier than measuring the finger directly when you are buying a gift or replacing a lost ring.
